A group of friends and I had a great day out hiring one of your cruisers, all the staff were really friendly and helpful , nothing was too much trouble , the boat was plenty big enough for a day trip for eight adults who all agreed it was one of the most relaxing days out we have had, and well worth the money .

Thanks to everyone at Ellerbeck, see you again

Regards chris

Boating AND fishing! Magic.

To give two young girls (6 yrs and 9 yrs) a completely new and challenging experience in the holidays, and a change from park activities, I booked an evening boat hire (3 hrs) on the Mirlees - the blue boat with extra deck area around the stern and tiller that allowed all four of us to gather there. If you and your kids want to enjoy the freedom of the great outdoors in a novel and exciting new activity, then this is for you. The children thoroughly enjoyed moving around the boat whenever they wanted (every 2 minutes!), to picnic at will, to try their hand at supervised steering and to help land the bream and roach that were easily caught (take a small rod if you are into fishing). Steering is a doddle - managed a three point turn in two! Other canal users really friendly and helpful. The whole canal is visually stunning as you meander through wonderful countryside - photo opportunities galore (take a camera). Wildlife everywhere to test your identification skills, even large terrapins! (Honestly). Simple, camp style cooking still allowed for chili, rice and pasta dishes we took. Master chef not required - all you need is on board. All this supported by detailed briefing session before you 'set sail' - in our case by the ever efficient Vera & Bill?. p.s. If you like a 'mans cave' the boat house shed is a visit you won't forget in a hurry!! A truly memorable night and experience!!!

Great day out

1st time on a narrow boat was absolutely fantastic, ellerbeck canal boat hire Lancashire are exceptional,we hired the boat from 10 a.m til 6p.m, and we didn't want our time to come to an end.we had food and a birthday cake on board both booked off the ellerbeck website.the buffet was very good, the quiches melted in your mouth, and we had a wide selection of food.our birthday cake was delicious and massive, . it was well worth being catered for on board..all 10 people in our party enjoyed themselves.fantastic day out.a must.

Hi Janet

I am so pleased that you enjoyed your day aboard Mirlees and that you had both our buffet food and cake. These come from two different companies where the owners of both have become good friends and we trust the quality of their food so your comments are much appreciated not only by us but also i'll pass them on to Katy's Kitchen in Chorley and The Blackrod Cake Company.

Thanks again and we hope that we'll see you all again sometime soon.

Cruising The Cut

Can't say "Thanks" enough for another fantastic experience aboard the green boat 'Crossley'. Lucien catered for a member of my party (my partner) perfectly as she hadn't had any experience operating a canal boat and came aboard to show my partner how to steer and manoeuvre the boat - this boosted my partners' confidence and as a result she thoroughly enjoyed her day (she enjoyed it so much that she wants to return and enjoy another boat trip). We did run into a couple of problems due to the low water level and the weeds in the canal but a phone call to the boatyard and Keith came to the rescue and untangled us - all part of the fun. We will be back to enjoy another day. Thanks Lucien, Keith and the rest of the staff at Ellerbeck Narrowboats for truly wonderful day 🙂

Hey Chris,

Good to see you again and Amanda's first trip on the canal with you as I know you really enjoy it. I am pleased that my handover to you boosted her confidence and that you had a great day despite the problem with the low water level on the canal.

See you all again soon

Had a fantastic time. Lucien provided a comprehensive brief prior to the trip and nothing was too much trouble. The friendly atmosphere set the tone for the narrowboat journey to the north. The canal is relatively wide and there was a fine place to have a meal near the locks just past Botany Bay. Would definitely recommend hiring a boat from Ellerbeck.

Hi Tony, many thanks for your review, it is much appreciated and am pleased that your visit to the Malthouse Farm for lunch was a good experience too. Lucien

My son Christopher hired a boat from Ellerbeck for his birthday. He always enjoys his day with Ellerbeck Narrowboats As it was his birthday, we decided to throw him a party on the canal side. We ordered food for 15 people. WOW what a service.... the food was great, lovely and fresh and all dietary needs catered for (Vegetarian & Gluten Free). Fabulous day.. Thank You Ellerbeck.

Hi Jacky, I'm pleased that Chris had a great day and many thanks for your kind words about the food I shall definitely pass on your kind words to our caterers.

Had a Rudder of a time

I booked the green boat (Crossley) for day hire on 21st October 2017 for an early Birthday bash. I am so glad i did. Although, there was actually only two people on the boat (myself and my friend), this didn't bother me as we were due to set sail from the boat yard and cruise up to Top Lock (New Springs). This is were my little party would get under way as i was met by my parents and some of their cycling club buddies under a gazebo on the canal bank. We had ordered a lunch package through Ellerbeck Narrowboats and the food was thoroughly enjoyed by all the party. I would definitely recommend ordering a lunch package alongside the boat hire - extremely good value for money. After the party we set sail from Top Lock and started to head back towards the boat yard however, by this point Storm Brian decided to gate crash the party and myself plus my friend got a little damp (more like soaked to the bone). Although the weather had turned nasty so quickly and caused us to make a decision to cut short the hire period of over an hour, we still enjoyed our day. I think what caused us to make an early departure was due to the fact as we hadn't brought any waterproofs with us (i have been on the boat several times in the past when the canal has been frozen and still had rudder of a time lol). I will be back to hire another of Ellerbecks well maintained boats next year. Great day all round :).

Hi Chris, sorry I didn't get to see you this time and I'm pleased that, despite the weather, you managed to enjoy your birthday bash. See you again soon.

On 10th August 2017 my daughter hired a boat for family and good friends (she knew that going on a canal boat was on my bucket list). We had a fantastic day from start to finish, I could not believe how relaxing it was, we saw loads of wildlife including families of swans, a heron and a kingfisher! We got lots of waves from people walking the towpath and people on other boats. The staff were excellent the way they helped with my wheelchair and went above and beyond what we expected! I don't think that I have smiled and enjoyed myself so much for a long time. An unforgettable experience.

Hi Yvonne, many thanks for your glowing review and am pleased that you managed to tick off another item on your bucket list!!

It's also good for others to know that wheelchairs can board our boats but just to emphasise to others, it is advisable to come an have a look at access arrangements before booking with a wheelchair and as Yvonne says, we'll do all we can to make sure you can board safely and comfortably.

Fun day

Had a great day with good friends

100% recommend to anyone, plenty of stop off points for food, although we chose to picnic on the boat

A day of laughter and fun
