Received a voucher for this as a Christmas present, which was a very novel idea. From start to finish, this was a wonderful experience. The briefings on how to operate the boat, safety, canal etiquette, etc. were very good, and we appreciated the personalised info pack.

Very relaxing day which we would highly recommend to others. We will be back to do the route in the Wigan direction next time.

Despite the rain we had a great day on the canal with our friends from Florida everyone at Ellerbeck were very good and were genuinely concerned that we all had a great time and were very helpful and knowledgeable,
We will book again and this time we hope the sunshine will come out

We hired the boat for my partners 40th Birthday with some friends and had a brilliant day. We stopped off at The Spinners pub and sampled some lovely food, the pub owners were very friendly and welcoming. We will definitely be booking again next summer with our children. Highly recommended.

We hired the blue boat (Mirlees) yesterday for a birthday surprise.
The very informative safety and handling talk filled all six of us with confidence and excitement.
Despite the constant rain, we had a great time cruising along with cake and prosecco and constant laughter.
It was a first-time experience for all of us and we all agreed we wanted to do it again. The staff were really friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend Ellerbeck Narrowboats even if you are a complete novice as we all were.

Fate sometimes smiles! We had planned an 11am start to go to the bus cafe but discovered it was closed on aa Wednesday so we moved earlier to 10am.

We set off with two youngsters and, contrary to weather forecasts, the sun shone on us until 2:30 and it didn't rain until 3.15 - at which point we were passing Ellerbeck and the children had probably had enough anyway!

Lovely day as usual - we are running out of friends and family to take for a trip but I am sure we shall be back. Our two grand-daughters of 5 and 9 thoroughly enjoyed playing at sailors ("full ahead Chief Engieer" etc!) , running along the tow path, picnicing and mooring for the odd run around and explore. Any activity where the children are happy is a winner as far as we are concerned. Thanks Ellerbeck for nice wee boat, good comms and a grand day out!

We had yet another lovely day aboard, with a crew making their first ever canal boat trip. Everyone had a go at steering - with some ahem! mixed results - but two of the crew proved to be particularly adept and were left in charge of the stern, while the rest of us slacked in the bow. The nearly two-year old loved every minute, fed ducks, helped to steer, talked about everything passing by on the banks and finally conked out twenty minutes before we got back to the boatyard. There is already talk of a return voyage.

From start to finish a great day, teens to 80’s on our family day out without any complaints, even the dog enjoyed it.

Lucien was welcoming, the safety briefing was all good and the weather played ball, everyone enjoyed their chill on the canal.

Barge has everything you need to be comfortable.
